Saul Bass



Saul Bass was a graphic designer and a filmmaker. He became recognized for the work he did in 1955 when creating the title sequence Otto Preminger for film “The Man with the Golden Arm.” He is also known for his iconic creations for AT&T “bell” logo in 1969 and then in 1983 it’s “globe” logo. In 1955 Elaine Makatura worked alongside of Saul and then in 1960 they were married. After their marriage most of the work was a joint effort. They had to children together Jennifer and Jeffrey. In 1968 they made the short film Why Man Creates, and won an Oscar for it. Near the end of his career he was sought after by James L. Brooks and Martin Scorsese to return to main title design after taking a break to concentrate of film. He went on to create title sequences for Goodfellas, Caper Fear, The Age of Innocence, and Casino.
