David
Carson is not only a well-known Graphic designer, but also an Art director and
in his leisure time he enjoys surfing. Graphic Design was not encountered, by
David Carson until 1980 when he enrolled in a 2 week class at the University of
Arizona.
In
1984 David Carson’s career, as an Art Director began to take shape as the Art
Director of Transworld Skateboarding magazine, in Carlsbad, California. He
redesigned the magazine giving it a new signature style with the use of “dirty”
type and a non-mainstream photography style.
Carson
moved to New York City in the mid-90s, where he began major clients to his
Graphic Design portfolio. Some of his well-known clients consisted of companies
such as, Microsoft, CNN, Levi Strauss, Suzuki and AT&T to name a very few.
David Carson has won over 230 awards for graphic design, photography advertising
and branding. Carson is currently working on a project for the Harvard Graduate
School of Design which includes over 30 poster designs for events and speaker
series.
He's a good one to profile... he is (was) a leader in edgy, experimental typography... breaking out of the Swiss design canon...
