Eric Carle was an American designer that wrote children's books as well as an illustrator in his own right. His books were sold all over the world totaling up to 62 millions copies, Witnessing challenging times, Eric escaped bombings and saw people killed a  few feet away from him, which his wife believed he suffered post-traumatic stress.

During his writing and Illustrating years Eric's work became recognizable, most of his work seemed to have been in collage form with bright and colorful images.According to wikipedia.org his work was not only entertaining, it was also an opportunity to teach the world something.

In his own words.... " With many of my books I attempt to bridge the gap between the home and school. To me home represents, or should represent; warmth , security, toys, holding hands, being held. School is a strange and new place for a child. Will it be a happy place? There are new people, a teacher, classmates-will they be friendly?
